We founded Donato Architecture & Development Studio with a simple belief: the experience of designing and building a home should be as thoughtful as the home itself. Too often, homeowners are left navigating a fragmented process with disconnected teams, unclear expectations, and unnecessary complexity. We created our firm to deliver a more thoughtful, collaborative, and seamless experience from the first conversation through construction.

Every project begins by listening. Before we think about drawings or permits, we take the time to understand how you live, what you value, and what you hope your home will become. We believe thoughtful design begins with a clear understanding of the people it is created for.

Our vision is to create architecture that is timeless, purposeful, and deeply connected to the lives of our clients, while redefining the experience of bringing those homes to life.

Architecture has been a lifelong passion of mine. Growing up in the woods of Massachusetts, I spent my childhood building treehouses with friends and later filling sketchbooks with imagined buildings, neighborhoods, and maps. Those early interests led me to study architecture, along with the humanities and real estate development, shaping an approach that values thoughtful design as much as the people it serves.

For more than 20 years, I have helped clients bring a wide variety of projects to life, from custom homes and complex residential renovations to hospitals, laboratories, and commercial buildings. That breadth of experience has reinforced my belief that successful projects require more than good design: they require careful planning, clear communication, and practical problem-solving.

Today, I focus on residential architecture, where I enjoy helping homeowners navigate one of the most significant investments they will make. I see my role as more than designing a home. I serve as a trusted advisor, helping clients understand their options, anticipate challenges, and confidently navigate the design, permitting, and construction process. My approach is grounded in transparency, pragmatism, and collaboration, with a commitment to balancing creativity, technical expertise, and the realities of budget, schedule, and construction.

I believe the best projects are built on trust. When clients understand their options, feel informed throughout the process, and know they have an advocate in their corner, the result is not only a better building, it is a better experience.

Arlene brings more than 20 years of corporate leadership experience to Donato Architecture & Development Studio, combining strategic thinking, operational excellence, and a deep commitment to client service. Throughout her career, she has led complex programs, built high-performing partnerships, and aligned diverse stakeholders around shared goals, experience that brings valuable perspective to the collaborative nature of residential design and construction.

As Director of Client Relations & Business Development, Arlene helps shape the firm's client experience, business operations, and strategic growth. She believes that thoughtful communication, clear expectations, and strong relationships are just as important to a successful project as good design.

Arlene is passionate about creating a more integrated and client-centered experience that brings architects, consultants, contractors, and homeowners together around a shared vision and a clear path forward. Her goal is simple: to ensure every client feels informed, supported, and confident throughout the process, transforming what is often a stressful undertaking into a rewarding experience.

For Arlene, great projects are measured not only by the spaces they create, but by the trust, confidence, and lasting relationships built along the way.

Guiding principles that shape the way we work.

Transparency.

Clients see the real shape of the project: schedule, budget, code constraints, the trade-offs a site forces. No design surprises in week twelve that the brief could have surfaced in week one.

Pragmatism.

The drawing has to be buildable on the budget at hand. Beautiful is good. Buildable-and-beautiful is the actual job. We design with the constructor, the inspector, and the calendar in the room, not as constraints to dodge but as collaborators that make the work honest.

Collaboration.

Architecture is a team sport: client, architect, engineer, builder, neighbor, jurisdiction. Our job is to keep that team on the same page, so the client never feels alone carrying the project's complexity. Best work comes from rooms where everyone trusts the drawing.
